What is Paint Protection Film (PPF)

ppf enfield

Originally, paint protection film (PPF) was conceived and developed by the U.S. military to protect helicopter rotor blades and other sensitive components from debris and intrusions. A thick film was applied to leading edges and potential impact areas, designed to be durable and easily replaceable in an environment where aesthetics were not a priority. As with many modern applications, technology that started in the military has been adapted for commercial use over decades.

Our PPF films and installation methods to be almost entirely invisible. Not only does PPF provide protection from chips, scratches, and environmental damage, but the fit and appearance of modern films serve to enhance—rather than detract from—the look of a vehicle while protecting the investment.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • Benefits of PPF
Protection Our protective paint film (PPF) shields vehicle paintwork from chips, minor scratches and scrapes, as well as environmental factors such as insect impacts and protects the finish from defects caused by improper washing techniques. Enhancement Our PPF has superior optical clarity and is very easy to maintain. When properly cared for, it provides a depth of shine similar to a freshly detailed vehicle for many years. Self Healing Our PPF contains a self-healing layer. Stone chips, scratches and swirls that do not penetrate this layer will disappear with the application of heat from tap water, the vehicle's engine, or sunlight. Replacement If a panel requires replacement, the vehicle will not be out of service for long. Most panels can be replaced within a couple hours, unlike traditional paint repairs which often take days or even weeks. Time & Convenience Should a panel require replacement, the turnaround is quick as most panels can be replaced within a couple hours whereas paint repairs typically take days or even weeks. Cost Because our PPF is custom fitted to each panel, it can be replaced individually, eliminating most needs to strip panels and blend additional paint to adjacent areas.
  • What PPF coverage to choose
Traditionally PPF was installed on wheel arches, the leading edge of the bonnet or the forward panels of the car. Today, many clients wants us to cover the entire vehicle. Such is the quality of the modern films and our design and installation processes that it really does make sense to protect the whole car. Paint protection film can protect your car against damage such as stone chips, car park nudges and chipping, and day-to-day scratches. With our custom designs, we can cover ANY painted, carbon fibre or smooth finished surface of the car, even interior trims. We have various options to suit each part of the car: thicker film for low down, high impact areas such as bumpers and sills, and clearer film for large, flat panels such as bonnets and roofs. All our film comes in matte, as well as traditional high-gloss options, to cover expensive matte paints and carbon fibre paints. Where the Damage Occurs: High impact areas (bumpers, bonnet, front wings, wing mirrors, lower doors, wheel arches, sills, headlamps, lower doors, wing mirrors). Medium impact areas (rear wings, upper doors). Low impact areas (boot lid, engine cover).
  • Why use us
All of our paint protection film kits are custom designed in-house from scratch and are not based on film manufacturer patterns. This results in optimum protection according to our stringent Topaz standards. When a vehicle arrives onsite, a full inspection of its condition is performed, whether it is new or used. The vehicle's paint is further inspected using a sun gun to identify any defects, swirls, holograms and customers are offered optional paint correction as needed before the film installation begins. For new models, each panel is patterned individually, then digitized and loaded into our CAD program for design work. Once designed, a test fit is performed. If any adjustments are required, a new test panel is produced and installed again until the fit meets our exact specifications. Then, we can proceed with the full installation of our paint protection film. Finally, we move to the first of three quality control stages before the vehicle receives final cleaning prior to return to its owner.
  • Aftercare
    - As the installation of the film is a wet process, we advise waiting 7 days before washing the car. Moisture needs time to fully evaporate between the film and paint. Using shampoos too early can impact curing and adhesive around panel edges. - Once cured, wash the car normally using the two-bucket method and lambswool mitt if possible. For pressure washing, maintain a distance of at least 3 feet from film edges to avoid lifting. A pH-balanced shampoo is recommended, as are our premium car care products. - Remove bug splatter or droppings as soon as possible, as with bare paint. While PPF adds protection, the top layer has a similar makeup to the vehicle's original lacquer and will also mark from acid etching in. - Polishing or waxing covered panels is acceptable, though product selection requires care. Resin, solvent, or abrasive polishes can leave hazes or damage self-healing abilities and must be avoided. A quality natural wax like carnauba can be used. Our team can advise on recommended products for those unsure. - Surface scratches and swirls will heal over time. Pouring warm, non-boiling water over affected areas can help the upper film layer return to its original state and accelerate the healing process.
